Mamaroneck, NY – July 16, 2012 - The Village of Mamaroneck Democratic Committee is excited to introduce three candidates for Village Trustee in the November election. Candidates Andres Jose Bermudez Hallstrom, Ilissa Miller, and Leon A. Potok all bring real-life business experience and have served on volunteer boards in the Village. They are committed to working together to ensure that the Village operates with transparency, manages taxpayer dollars wisely, preserves its special quality of life, encourages conservation, and protects its unique waterfront assets.

Andres, a resident of Washingtonville, is an attorney with a practice in Mamaroneck. A volunteer member of the Flood Mitigation Advisory Committee, he was first exposed to the flooding issues facing the village as a volunteer in the Mamaroneck High School shelter during the 2007 Nor’Easter. A Captain and Squadron Commander in the Civil Air Patrol, the volunteer auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force tasked with disaster relief and search and rescue, Andres entered public service at age 17 as a volunteer in the Carnegie Mellon University Emergency Medical Service.

Ilissa is Chief Executive Officer of iMiller Public Relations, a telecom marketing, public relations, and business strategy consultancy for international clients. She has served on the Mamaroneck Avenue Task Force Committee, as President of the Harbor Lawn Estates Association, and is an active member of the PTSA in Rye Neck where she lives with her husband and son.

Leon is the chairman of the Village Budget Committee and has served on the Mamaroneck School District Budget/Finance Committee. His financial advisory firm serves industrial labor unions in negotiations with employers seeking to modify wages and benefits for workers and retirees. Leon worked previously for a major New York insurance company, recommending and monitoring investments. He lives in the Heathcote Hill neighborhood with his wife and has three children.

“The Village is fortunate to have these three terrific candidates, offering diversity in their personal, educational and professional skills and experiences, to serve Village residents,” said Stuart Tiekert, Chair of the Village of Mamaroneck Democratic Committee. “We thank incumbent Trustees Sid Albert, John Hofstetter, and Toni Pergola Ryan, who chose not to run for re-election, for their years of service. We are grateful for their dedication and commitment to Mamaroneck Village.”

In addition, the Democrats have nominated for re-election Village Justice Daniel J. Gallagher. Judge Gallagher has demonstrated the integrity that the Village of Mamaroneck deserves in the courtroom and also is an active community volunteer. He graduated from Fordham Law School and received his B.A. from Bucknell University.
