Proposition No. 2

PROPOSITION NO. 2, submitting Local Law No. T-2016 to the electors of the Village of Mamaroneck

To be voted upon by the qualified electors of the Village of Mamaroneck at the General Election to be held on November 8, 2016

SHALL THERE BE APPROVED AND ADOPTED IN THE VILLAGE OF MAMARONECK, NEW YORK, A LOCAL LAW ENTITLED “LOCAL LAW NO. T-2016, A LOCAL LAW REGARDING THE APPOINTMENT AUTHORITY OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, AMENDING SECTIONS 58-1 AND 342-88 OF THE CODE OF THE VILLAGE OF MAMARONECK TO TRANSFER TO THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, FROM THE MAYOR SUBJECT TO THE APPROVAL OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, THE AUTHORITY TO APPOINT THE MEMBERS AND CHAIRPERSONS OF THE PLANNING BOARD AND ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS, AND TO FILL VACANCIES IN SUCH OFFICES, SUPERSEDING SECTIONS 3-312, 7-712 AND 7-718 OF THE VILLAGE LAW OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK”? 


Victor, Keith and Leon support Proposition No. 2.

Proposition No. 2 restores to the full Board of Trustees the authority to nominate members to the Zoning Board of Appeals and the Planning Board.

In 2010, Local Law No. 22 gave the mayor sole authority. Before 2010, shared responsibility for these nominations was the Village practice since the 1920's.

These two land use boards play a major role in determining the development and character of our neighborhoods and downtown. Having broader representation and accountability is critically important, regardless of which political party has a majority on the Board.
