Nora and Sharon Need Your Support

First, mission accomplished!  Trustee Nora Lucas won her primary with 61% of the vote.  Thanks to all who came out to vote last week and helped with the campaign.  Nora will be on both the Democratic Line and the Building Bridges Party line for the November 7th election.

The Village Democratic Party also endorsed Sharon Torres, a Village democrat who is running for mayor on the Building Bridges Party line in November.  Both Nora and Sharon will face opponents, so we are asking you for your support at this time.

With Sharon as mayor and Nora continuing as trustee, fiscal responsibility, civil discourse, and transparent government will remain priorities.  Nora and Sharon are seeking the support of a wide range of residents from all Village neighborhoods, unlike their opponents who rely on large financial contributions from a select few individuals.

We ask you to support Nora and Sharon with a contribution at whatever level you are comfortable with.

To contribute to Nora’s campaign, click Here or send a check to “Friends of Nora Lucas.

To contribute to Sharon’s campaign, click Here or send check to “Friends of Sharon Torres.”

Checks can be sent to PO Box 568, Mamaroneck, NY 10543.

With support from residents like you, we all will win in November. And please reach out to Village of Mamaroneck Democrats if you would like to volunteer to assist with the campaign.

Sincerely,

Gretta Heaney

Tomorrow, June 27, is Primary Day!

Re-Elect Nora Lucas Village Trustee.

During her three terms in office, Nora has involved the community in collaborative conversations, and is now often the lone voice urging civility, respect and transparent decision-making based on facts. In her next term, Nora will:

·         Restore civility to the Board of Trustees

·        Address environmental issues (including flooding and water quality) in a cost-effective way

·        Provide transparency and accountability in Village spending and tax increases

·        Work to keep the Mamaroneck Library open with transparent and sound financial decisions, again always mindful of the burden on taxpayers.

Please VOTE tomorrow June 27.

Support Nora Lucas for re-election as Mamaroneck Village Trustee

Please join us in supporting Nora Lucas for re-election as Mamaroneck Village Trustee

Nora Lucas has served as a Village Trustee for more than five years.  Nora has served on the Village’s Mamaroneck Affordable Condominium Corporation, on its Landmarks Advisory Committee and on its Flood Mitigation Advisory Committee including work on the Army Corps flood mitigation plan.   She has researched and published articles on the history of Mamaroneck, submitted research on local sites including the Mamaroneck United Methodist Church, the St. Thomas Church Complex, and the Albert Wilson House for listing on the National Register of Historic Places.  A lifelong Mamaroneck resident, known throughout the Village for her extensive volunteer service, Nora now resides with her husband, Tony, and daughter, Molly, in Rye Neck.   Nora earned a BA from Manhattanville College in American Studies and an MA from Boston University in Preservation Studies and is a professional architectural historian, specializing in environmental review.  She also served for 10 years as a Girl Scout leader, is currently a Girl Scout Silver Award Mentor, was a long-time Larchmont-Mamaroneck Food Pantry volunteer and is a Democratic Party volunteer.

“Serving as a village trustee is an honor.  I am eager for the opportunity for another term because although much has been accomplished there is more to do.  I sponsored a Fair and Affordable housing requirement for projects of 5 units or more; provided transparency and accountability in Village spending and tax increases, have addressed and will continue to address environmental issues including flooding and water quality in a cost-effective manner.  I continue to support the Vision Zero policy to make our Village more walkable and safer for pedestrians and cyclists.  I have advocated for the Village Board to work to keep the Mamaroneck Library open with transparent and sound financial decisions.  I am always mindful of the burden on taxpayers.  Most significantly, I serve as an independent voice and provide critical research and analysis on the Board.”  Trustee Nora Lucas

Nora Lucas prevented the Village from allowing hate speech on public property.

Dear Friends and Neighbors:

Misinformation is being spread about my support for the Black Lives Matter mural in Columbus Park.  Let’s set the record straight:

When the Board of Trustees first discussed a BLM mural I voted against a hasty proposal that would have opened the door to all kinds of hate speech on Village property.  Along with some of my (now former) Trustee colleagues we insisted that the Board take an extra two weeks to develop and adopt a policy to ensure that the mural was government speech and not private speech.

Because of this very slight delay to get it right, Mamaroneck is now protected from any demands of the Nazi Party, KKK, and other vile hate groups since government speech can be regulated (by policy) but private speech cannot.

Thoughtful policy making is what this Village needs.

Don’t fall for the hypocrisy and lies circulating in this upcoming primary.  My record is clear.

If you have any questions please reach out to me at [email protected].

Sincerely,

Nora Lucas

Sharon Torres Endorsed by Village of Mamaroneck Democrats

Sharon Torres Endorsed by Village of Mamaroneck Democrats

Why We Endorsed Sharon Torres for Mayor

Sharon Torres is a Democratic District Leader who shares our core Democratic values of fairness, justice and equality along with the importance of transparency in local governance.  She is smart, hardworking, and respectful.  She is committed to moving Mamaroneck forward.

Sharon has been a Human Resources executive for over 12 years, working her way up over the years and is now the Chief Human Resources Officer for Catholic Guardian Services where she has responsibility for 1,000 employees in over 25 locations.  Her skill set includes strategic planning, negotiating union agreements, and overseeing the Human Resources Department.

Sharon fully understands the importance of accountability and professionalism. She knows how to collaborate with different voices and perspectives.

Why We Did Not Endorse Tom Murphy (who is also a member of this Committee)

The quick answer is that he did not seek or want our endorsement, but there’s more to it than that.

Over the past six years, we have seen Tom Murphy become increasingly intolerant of views that differ from his own.  Instead of working in a collaborative manner to reach compromise, he chooses to personally attack the character of those community members he disagrees with.

Having control of a majority of the Board of Trustees, Tom is now working to defeat Nora Lucas (his former running mate) and a Trustee who does her homework, asks important questions, thinks for herself, and demonstrates critical analysis skills on important issues facing this Village including fiscal management and the impact of zoning changes.

After the hot mic incident in which Tom used profanity to describe a resident who appeared before the Board in a respectful manner, several people considered launching a campaign to challenge him.  That disqualifying incident has galvanized many in the community to see what Tom now sadly has become:  intolerant and mean-spirited.

The Village deserves 5 independent thinkers on our Board of Trustees working in the best interests of the residents.

We Support Nora Lucas for re-election

nora4trustee.png

Trustee Nora Lucas is running for re-election to serve us for another two years.  She was endorsed by the Village Democratic Committee and is the only member of the board to consistently vote with an open, independent mind.  Nora is challenged by a candidate with no government experience who was hand-picked by Mayor Murphy.

It is critical that we keep Nora’s voice on the village Board of Trustees.

Moving our Village forward is essential but it must be the right kind of progress. The community deserves to be informed, involved, and respected in every part of the process. Nora is deeply committed to that. She will continue to:

  • Press for civility at Board meetings
  • Be an independent thinker
  • Address critical environmental issues
  • Provide transparency and accountability in spending your tax dollars
  • Work to keep the Mamaroneck Library open

The Democratic primary is June 27 and early voting starts on June 17th.

Nora wants to keep serving you, providing a strong, objective and caring voice for our village.

Please stay tuned for more information.  You can contact Nora for more information at [email protected].
